How to play

  1. Split hunters into teams of two or three at the rug and hand each team a start card.
  2. Read the start riddle aloud; an adult shadows each team until the first stop is found.
  3. Teams read each found riddle together and carry the card to the next spot themselves.
  4. Adults hold back unless a stop stalls for more than two minutes, then hint with the room, not the spot.
  5. The last riddle sends teams to the bell sound; the basket opens once both teams arrive.

Print one start card per team; cards two to four hide once, in order.

  4. Stop 4 - on the fridge: 'Each morning we meet, face to shiny face. I copy your grin and stay in one place. Find me where the toothbrush crowd stands - your clue waits at the glass where fog lands.' Hide card 5 at the bathroom mirror corner.

Clue cards: stops five to eight and the finale

The back half of the trail crosses the quiet rooms and ends at the bells.

  1. Stop 5 - bathroom mirror corner: 'Stories stand here, spined in a row, holding their pages where bookmarks go. Slide the tall one, give a look - your next clue hides inside a book.' Hide card 6 poking from the top of a picture book.
  2. Stop 6 - in the bookshelf: 'I swallow remotes, coins, and crackers without a peep. Hunters who dive between the cushions find treasures to keep. Search where you nap and snack - your next clue hides down the back.' Hide card 7 under a sofa cushion.
  3. Stop 7 - under the sofa cushion: 'Muddy sneakers queue by the door, and lonely socks sit where the wet things go. Check a boot or the basket rim - one more clue and you'll reach the end of the whim.' Hide card 8 in a boot or on the laundry basket.
  4. Stop 8 - in the boot or basket: 'You followed the riddles, you hunted well done - the last thing you need is the sound of fun! Follow the jingle, come gather around: your prize basket waits where the cocoa is found.' Run to the bells on the prize basket.

Hiding checklist: card by card

Tape the cards in this order; the route only works when each card is hidden before the hunt starts.

  • Card 1 (start): handed to each team at the door, never hidden
